The work depicting scenes from the Life of St John the Baptist has been dated to c.1550 and attributed by the Old Master paintings expert Cabinet Turquin to the circle of the Flemish landscape artist Joachim Patinir (c.1480-1524).

“The richness of the landscape, the depth of the perspective, the delicacy of the blues, the way of representing the rocks, a bit like the shape of oyster shells and the rustic aspect of the figures, show that the artist was in contact with Patinir,” says the Cabinet’s Stéphane Pinta.

The painting has an estimate of €60,000-80,000 at the Angers auction on December 10.
