1830 second edition copy of George Bradshaw’s 'Map of Canals, Navigable Rivers, Rail Road &c. in the Midland Counties of England from Actual Survey' sold for £500 at Forum Auctions on October 8.
Enlarged to accommodate the development of the Grand Junction Canal from Stoke Hammond to Tring, this large-scale map is centred on Birmingham, with decorative border and calligraphic title.
An engraving with hand-colouring, it measures 4ft 6in x 4ft 2in (1.38 x 1.28m).
The successful bidder in the Maps and Atlases online-only auction was a UK private collector.
