Offered by Young’s (30% buyer’s premium) in Farnham, on August 15, it was not in the best condition– the ends of the baton the bear holds behind its back were missing while the jaw had been broken and reglued – but it is a scarce model.
It had been shown to David Battie at a BBC Antiques Roadshow back in 1989 and filmed for an episode. More recently another had sold for $2800 at Heritage Auctions in the US in 2012.
This Surrey example took £2400 (estimate £500-800) from a bidder on thesaleroom.com.
