They own Ludgate House Antiques in Falmouth and were exhibiting at AFC Fairs’ August bank holiday weekend fair at the Royal Cornwall Showground. On their stand they had a herdsman’s chest marked DM Watkins Tooley’s Herd Attested Aberdeen Angus Gt Dunmow Essex.
Ralph Retallack takes up the tale: “On the second day I had the easiest sale I have ever made when a young man bought the chest. His name? Danny Michael Watkins. The coincidence doesn’t end there. I bought a vintage luggage case at the fair and it was only when I was unloading it at the shop that I twigged the brass nameplate – KN Watkins.’’
Alex Robins of AFC Fairs reported that the two-day antiques fair on August 29-30 at the Royal Cornwall Showground “was an amazing success with a wonderful selection of stock and a record number of stalls.” There are now extra fair dates by the organisers at the showground on Saturday October 24 and Sunday October 25.
