After 26 years working on the Baltic Exchange as a tanker broker, he met his wife Barbara and started to trade in antiques. For the past 34 years he had been happily married and was a regular face at Bermondsey Market, NEC Antiques for Everyone and also the IACF fairs – especially the Newark fair.

John and Barbara’s great love was sailing his boat KikiG (pictured above). He loved travelling around the world and he attended the US gun shows, bringing back to the UK American Civil War items.

John was larger than life, 6ft 5in in his boots. He was a gentle giant. He would often be seen at 6am at the early-morning fairs carrying a large stag’s head or other taxidermy items.

For the last 14 years, after having a stroke while on holiday in Provence, he had been trading from his website johngair.com. Barbara will carrying on trading from this site until the items have been sold.

The funeral will be on April 28, at 11am at St Clements Church, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Family flowers only. Donations if wished to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service. The funeral will be streamed live on Facebook on the St Clements Church page.
