This 1867 watercolour of Brighton’s chain pier will need research before being offered to the public, said dealer Jeremy Carson, of the Antiquarian Book Company. “Brighton has always been popular with artists and I’ll be taking it to The Keep in Brighton, home of the Sussex Archives, for an expert view before pricing it,” he said.

“Things are going ahead as planned and we expect more to sign up nearer the date,” he said. “There’s a lot of interest in Brighton in local history and we can capitalise on that.

“The excellent Lewes Book Fair* is the only large one left on the south coast so Brighton – London-on-Sea - seems a great place to kickstart a new PBFA venture at an out-of-town venue with lots of potential and endless free parking.”
