Made by the highly regarded Italian firm of Castellani, a pioneer in the revivalist field, and bearing the maker’s mark, the necklace is fashioned as a 14½in (37cm) fringe of alternating gold urns and roundels set with micromosaics.
The urns are decorated with ropework, a favourite technique for revivalist pieces.
The necklace doubled its $20,000-30,000 guide to take $50,000 (£37,880) in the sale of jewellery held in Boston on November 16.
