La Maison Moderne was founded by Julius Meyer-Graefe in 1898 and sold furnishings and decorative objects for home interiors in the Art Nouveau style.

This stylish poster by the Rome-born designer Manuel Orazi (1860-1934)shows a selection of the type of pieces offered such as art pottery, glass, lamps and sculpture. The elegant woman seated in the curvilinear armchair has been identified as the dancer Cléo de Mérode.

Orazi’s poster, measuring 2ft 8in x 3ft 10in (82cm x 1.2m), carries an estimate of $40,000-60,000 in the New York sale.
