It was part of a bound book of plans and sections relating to the Staines & Egham Light Railway, dated May 1900, and measuring 22in x 2ft 5½in (56 x 75cm), together with a quantity of correspondence and other paperwork relating to the line.

This book sold for £1600 at Stroud Auctions (18% buyer’s premium) on November 4, well above the estimate of £20-40.

The London Gazette of May 29, 1900, featured a notice given to the Light Railway Commissioners by the Staines and Egham Light Railway Company under the Light Railways Act 1896, “authorising light railways in the parishes and urban districts of Staines and Egham”. This involved one stretch of “3 miles 1 furlong” and another running from that of “3 furlongs”, using electrical motive power. It appears that the railway was never built.
