This example, a Maxim M1908/15 light machine gun, the adaptation of a heavier existing weapon, was described by Lockdales (18% buyer’s premium) as having been “stripped of all its component parts leaving just a carcass” but still making an “excellent display piece”.
It included a small plaque added to the barrel stating Captured By 2.C.M.R. on 2.10.1918.
Bidders saw past the condition issues and it sold for £2500 on July 9 in Ipswich, five times the low estimate.
