The group comes from the Park Avenue pied-à-terre formerly owned by Enid Annenberg Haupt and comprises 130 lots of European furniture and decorative art, Chinese furniture and ceramics, 19th century porcelain and silver and 20th/21st century works of art.
Among the highlights is this Japanese, Momoyama period, mother-of-pearl inset Namban black lacquer cabinet of c.1600 with a Charles II period silvered stand and cresting of c.1675-80, standing 6ft 2in (1.89m) high overall.
The cabinet, which opens to reveal drawers decorated overall with flowering trees and birds within black and gold frames, would have been among the first Japanese export lacquer goods to arrive in the West.

The cabinet on stand was formerly in the collection of Gordon and Ann Getty, sold at Sotheby’s, New York, in October 1999 and was again sold in the same rooms in 2007.
The estimate in Christie’s sale is $20,000-40,000.
