Bid to £7500 in Chorley’s (18% buyer’s premium) auction was a richly illustrated and illuminated Parisian Book of Hours, printed on vellum by Guillaume Anabat for Germain Hardouin c.1505 – one that the saleroom noted may have lacked a few pages.
Sold at £5000 via thesaleroom.com was a much later lot, one of 300 copies of a Kelmscott edition of the Psalmii Penitentiales, edited by Frederick S Ellis from those found in a manuscript written in Gloucester c.1440.
Printed by William Morris in 1894, it was in a slightly later, 1897 binding of red morocco gilt produced by the Doves Bindery.
The sale was held on September 21.
