The brainchild of Will Ramsay, the Affordable Art Fair now runs in New York, Stockholm, Battersea plus Hampstead in London, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Singapore and Sydney.

The next up in London is the Battersea event from Thursday to Sunday, October 21-24, at Evolution London in Battersea Park.

Rapid expansion

Ramsay said: “The fair started in London in 1999 with 87 exhibitors, increasing the following year to 120. We expanded to two fairs a year from 2002, and to Hampstead a decade ago. It has stayed around that level since, without a drop in exhibitors.”

Confirming the increased interest in buying art, he added: “Since lockdown we have held three fairs, in New York, London and Hong Kong. All have seen higher art sales than pre-lockdown.”

The Battersea event showcases the work of recent graduates – one of the best opportunities to suss out work by tomorrow’s big names.
