Horse and elephant armour, shields, bows, quivers and a seven-steel blade gruesomely named the ‘head ripper’ are among the weapons depicted.

Apart from two examples in museums, no other paintings are known of Indian arms and armour depicted in this glossary-style format.

The pair are priced at £55,000 from arms and armour specialist Runjeet Singh, who showcases a selection of pieces from across the Asian world as part of a joint exhibition with jewellery specialist Sue Ollemans in St James’s (October 21- November 5) as part of Asian Art in London.
