Oliver Kent, who runs Old School Interiors, said: “My grandfather was an antiques dealer and I absolutely loved visiting his shop. When I was furloughed from my job I started selling antiques to occupy myself and have loved every minute since.

“Since September it’s been full time in the shop. It was a bit scary with a family and two young children but the reaction has been really positive.

“The arcade has recently been sold and it would be great if I could open here permanently as I really love this building and the space. We have had people coming in and spending good money – I just need more footfall.”

Kent added: “I change the stock daily and have been selling plenty including a Victorian oil, mirrors, a Florentine side table, a limed oak French ivory table, mouldings and busts.”

Kent also sells online from his 17th century former schoolhouse home in Wymondham, south Norfolk as well as at local fairs including those run by Hingham Antiques Fairs and Blackdog Events.

The pandemic led many people to change their life’s direction, including Kent whose love for his work is evident by his comment: “I struggle to resist anything chinoiserie, lacquered, oil portraits, gilt mirrors, rugs, painted European furniture and busts…”
