HL Chalfant brings this turned banister back armchair made c.1730-40 to the Philadelphia Show, which is ticketed at $35,000.
HL Chalfant is one of 40 dealers exhibiting at the fair, celebrating its 60th anniversary from April 29-May 1.
Like the armchair, most of the items are of American taste, though there are other international offerings too. Items span the 16th-21st centuries and include antiques, design, ceramics, jewellery and folk art.
The event has a new location for this edition on the grounds of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s East Terrace. The fair and the institution are closely tied. Since 2018 the museum became a beneficiary of the fair, and all net proceeds from the event go to its division of digital resources and content strategy.
Offered by Earle D Vandekar of Knightsbridge Antiques, this Chinese export porcelain garniture of five vases and covers with rust orange ground, c.1770-80, is offered for $12,500.
Also, a virtual lecture series New Conversations with The Philadelphia Show debuts this year featuring three talks on collecting fields moderated by the museum’s curators.
Each staging features a loan show and this year it is Zero to Sixty, highlighting loan exhibits from the fair’s history.
Exhibitors include SJ Shrubsole, Elle Shushan, Spencer Marks and Lillian Nassau.
