A collection of predominantly 18th and 19th century bottles was sold as part of the Oxford Library sale at Mallams (25% buyer’s premium) on February 23.

Some of the most eagerly contested had seals referencing places in Wales. Pictured here are two late Georgian bottles: one, with a large seal stamped John Colby, Fynone 1822 (his will dated the following year survives in the National Archives at Kew), the other, stamped I.T. Ynys Y Plwm 1808 for John Thomas, Lead Island, Llanharan.

They sold at £500 and £680 respectively.
