An appealing subject by a perennial favourite of Modern British art buyers, the picture is sure to attract attention, but, like the rest of the show, will only be seen by people ‘in the know’.

The exhibition runs from January 15-22 in GBS Fine Art in Wells. Thanks to its firstfloor location the gallery is unlikely to attract any passing trade. However, according to Mitton, that is no bad thing. Holding an exhibition for those in the know means the space is unlikely to get overcrowded at any point – a possible advantage for those looking to both view art and remain Covid-safe.

Mitton, a Somerset dealer, specialises in 20th century British art by established names, mainly Royal Academicians. Other stand-out works include an oil by Julian Trevelyan and two watercolours by John Piper, which will appear with pictures by Daphne McClure, Fred Yates and Keith Vaughan.

Diverse selection

Mitton says: “I have brought together a diverse selection of work in order to accommodate a variety of tastes. They are all pictures which I have chosen and the thing they all have in common is that they are by recognised artists who have an established market.”

Limited-edition prints and smaller works are also on offer. Prices range from £200-25,000.
