Such scenes as A Yorkshire Haytime by the Leeds-born artist are sure to appeal to local buyers at the event, which runs from January 28-30.

Bowen exhibited at the 1888 inaugural exhibition of the Yorkshire Union of Artists aged just 15, winning two amateur medals.

Two years later, he was apparently expelled from the society after quarrelling with the organisation’s secretary – suggesting he may have adopted the Yorkshire temperament as well as its landscape. He went on to open his own school of painting in Leeds and was elected a member of the Staithes Art Club in 1904. Bowen travelled and exhibited widely, served as president of the Royal Cambrian Academy. He died aged 94.
