Benney’s (1930-2008) shallow centrepieces with free-formed pierced covers are quite distinctive. He produced over 50 of them in varying designs during his career.

The example offered here is unusual as it features a removable brooch at its centre, claw set with a circular cut aquamarine within a bird’s nest border of textured batons set with corner step cut aquamarines. A similar model is pictured in Designer British Silver by John Andrew and Derek Styles.

Dating from 1965, it is estimated at £4000-6000 in the auction of Fine Jewellery, Silver, Watches and Luxury Accessories in Newbury on July 7.
