Silver chamber stick and snuffer with glass hurricane shade reputed to be a gift from Queen Victoria to John Brown – £3800 at Catherine Southon.
Engraved From V R Xmas 1871 and initialled JB, it has marks for Robert Garrard & Co, London, 1871.

One of the inscriptions on a silver chamber stick and snuffer reputed to be a gift from Queen Victoria to John Brown.
Consigned by a private collector, it had an estimate of £800-1200 in the Catherine Southon (20% buyer’s premium) two-day sale at Farleigh Court, Surrey, on May 10-11.

It attracted very strong bidding from both England and Scotland and was finally bought by a bidder in the UK for £3800.
