The saleroom’s galleries in Bond Street will feature displays of royal portraits, aristocratic jewels and manuscripts, including works loaned from private collections, as well as a series of lectures, performances and book launches.
They run until June 15.
In Power & Image: Royal Portraiture & Iconography portraits of seven English queens across five centuries will accompany related historic manuscripts. The show is led by the Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I, on loan from Woburn Abbey (above).
Power & Image: Royal & Aristocratic Tiaras includes 40 tiaras with British and European royal provenances. They include the Spencer tiara as worn by Diana, Princess of Wales on her wedding day.
Sotheby’s Bond Street restaurant has teamed up with Chatsworth, home to the Devonshire family, to create jubilee menus featuring Chatsworth estate-reared lamb and produce from the kitchen gardens.
The auction house has also themed its auction at the end of the month to fit with the jubilee theme.
Its British Art: The Jubilee Auction on June 29 is focused on British art from Old Masters to Contemporary.
