Peter Harrison Fine Art offers this portrait of the Hon Mrs Theodora Cowper c.1710 by Michel Dahl (1659-1743).
It is a rare allegorical depiction for Dahl, showing the sitter as the goddess Diana, and was probably inspired by Lely’s portrait of the Duchess of Richmond from the previous century.
Painted at the height of Dahl’s popularity in London elite society, the picture was mentioned in Theodora’s will, left to her youngest stepson, Rev John Cowper.
The portrait is priced at £22,000.
