The gallery will host an exhibition exploring the “enduring influence of ancient Egypt on visual culture” and would like to hear from people with Egyptian revival objects as well as information about makers and manufacturers.

Visions of Ancient Egypt is planned to coincide with two anniversaries of Egyptology in 2022: the centenary of the rediscovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and the bicentenary of Champollion’s decipherment of hieroglyphs.

The show will explore how ancient Egypt has “shaped centuries of global art and design, charting how its iconic imagery has been re-imagined by different cultures for different purposes over time”.

The curators plan to include 200 fine and decorative works of art – from Egyptian antiquities and Roman sculpture to Orientalist paintings – for the exhibition which is planned to run at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich from September 3 to January 1, 2023.
