Starting in the early 2000s after his retirement, the collector first concentrated on works by local artists from the Rouen area such as Robert Antoine Pinchon and Charles Angrand, later expanding to take in works by painters from the Seine estuary and Brittany.
The collection includes paintings by Raoul Dufy, Henry Moret, Bernard Buffet and five works by Eugène Boudin (1824-98).
Pictured above is Boudin’s view of the bassin de la Barre at Le Havre, a 14 x 21in (36 x 54cm) oil on panel signed lower left and dated (18)95.
It was last at auction at Sotheby’s in June 2015 and features in R Schmit’s catalogue raisonné on the artist.
The estimate is €60,000-80,000.
Also shown above is one of a number of works in the sale by Charles Angrand (1854-1926), an artist who was born in Normandy and trained at the academy of painting and drawing in Rouen.
Antoine, a charcoal drawing measuring 21½ x 17in (55 x 43cm), is signed lower left.
It was purchased at a charity sale at Elbeuf, Normandy in 2007 and now has an estimate of €1500-2000.
