Since beginning his antiques business in 1974 his thirst for knowledge and interest in rare and unusual antiques forged a long and happy career with good friendships along the way.
In 1974, with his wife Mary, they opened Charlbury Antiques and later moved to Chipping Norton in 1976 and started Key Antiques.
Specialising in early oak, metalware and primitive folk art, his successful business and generosity of knowledge and honesty gained him a good reputation in the trade.
Danny was an early member of the Antique Metalware Society, The Cotswold Antique Dealers Association and The Pewter Society, contributing to talks and articles on fire marks, candlesticks, lighting and keys.
Danny had endured Parkinson’s Disease for 24 years and decided to ‘retire’ around 1999 after running Key Antiques for many years.
Antiques dealers never really retire and he collected, bought and sold antiques up until a few weeks ago and despite his physical limitations, the fire never went out and his passion for antiques sat alongside his painting and jazz which he enjoyed so much.
Moving to Lyme Regis in 2014 with his daughter and her family gave him very happy years as he enjoyed the views to the sea and the beautiful gardens his family created. He was very proud of what had been achieved and loved being there watching birds, the fish in the pond, with a paintbrush in one hand, Antiques Trade Gazette in the other and jazz in the background. He was a happy man who’d led a fine life full of humour and fun.
The cremation service will take place at East Devon Crematorium, Whimple, Exeter, on Thursday, November 10, at 11.30am. If you would like to attend please contact joolswoodhouse@yahoo.co.uk.
