This particular bronze has a more personal slant. It depicts the artist’s bassett hound, Wurst. The lost wax cast by Hebrard, numbered four in an edition of five from a model created in 1906, is signed and measures 10in (25cm) high x 21in (53cm) wide.
Estimated at €30,000-50,000 in a sale held by Beaussant Lefèvre (28% buyer’s premium inc VAT) at Drouot in on October 21, it leapfrogged that guideline to sell for €235,000 (£204,350).
