The Penzance firm opened The Lanner Auction House in a former Methodist church in the village of Lanner, near Redruth in west Cornwall, and held its first sale on September 29 titled All Things Music.

Lay’s has been renovating the building for the past nine months. The ground floor is open with the first floor to follow.

Departments based in Lanner are Asian art sales led by Darren Ashley, jewellery and watches run by Carl Nielsen, rare books with Bobby Warrington and music sales from Guy Harandon.

The decision to expand is due to the auction house outgrowing its original saleroom. The four departments have moved to the new location to allow for the expansion of its art department in Penzance.

The new site will also host single-owner and specialist sales planned for 2023.
