As there is no more space at the Gainsborough site, managing director Robert Miller is drawing up plans for expansion at what is Europe’s largest antiques centre and, nervous about rising utility costs, he told ATG that “we are looking at installing solar panels on the roofs of all four centres”.

He added: “Quite concerning too is the cost of exporting which has shot up. Shipping to Taiwan and Australia has seen a container price increase from £4000 to £12,000.”

That said, Miller is upbeat about the gradual return of overseas buyers to the UK antiques scene, particularly Americans visiting IACF Newark and Swallow Fairs at Lincoln which is all positive news for nearby Hemswell.
