This lighting set comprised a pair of 1½in (4cm) high silver baluster candlesticks, on square bases with matching snuffers stand and matching scissor snuffers, each piece initialled B to match.
It was another example of the work of Arnoldus van Geffen, in this case from 1753 (the candlesticks are fully marked, the snuffers and stand unmarked), and sold for £2500 in the Newcastle auction.
These miniatures were in remarkable condition - the crispness of hallmark and engraving suggested that they had never been subject to the regular cleaning of much antiques silver.
