Titled Animal Head, 1956, the sculpture is signed and numbered 7/10 and offered for £75,000.

The fair runs from January 18-22, returning to its usual calendar slot after being rescheduled to April last year (much like The Winter Show). It takes place at the Business Design Centre in Upper Street, Islington.

Spencer is one of more than 100 UK and international galleries standing at the event. Other participants include Osborne Samuel, Christopher Kingzett Fine Art and Redfern Gallery as it enters its centenary year.

Special events

The fair always comes with a bulging schedule of special exhibitions and lectures. This year’s talks include Revisiting Modern British Art and The Fine Art of Commissioning.

There is a dedicated photography showcase (Photo50), a ‘Platform’ section focusing on a specific theme and a ‘next generation’ area, Encounters. Ben Uri Gallery is its museum partner for this staging.

Fair director Sarah Monk says it will “evolve and reflect the art market in all its breadth” and welcomed the chance to “open the art collecting calendar once more”.
