A portrait of Commander John Henry Cochrane by Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), estimated at $5000-8000 at Doyle.
The 2ft 6in x 2ft 1in (76 x 63cm) oil on canvas depicts Commander John Henry Cochrane RN and has a provenance to the sitter, then by descent in the family until 1985 when it appeared at auction at Christie’s in Scotland as the property of Miss E Cochrane.
At the latter sale, it was purchased by the present owner, a New York private collection.
The estimate is $5000-8000.
