Rising quickly in the profession he mastered to be senior auctioneer until he started his own auction house, Christopher Matthews Auctioneers and Valuers, in 1989.

In his retirement he continued to work with his private clients and again with Morphets at what he still loved and was fully active until his sudden death on May 1.

His strong and abiding faith was reflected at the Requiem Mass held at St Robert’s Catholic Church which was full to capacity.

A committed family man, many of whom he employed in different roles, he is survived by his wife of 48 years Debbie, their three daughters and eight grandchildren.

Knowing Chris for 50 years and often working with him these last 20 years, our collaborations were always enjoyable.
