He based his career in Paris, where he first exhibited in the Salon of 1914. He specialised in figures – often exotic female dancers – in carved ivory and highly worked bronze. Many were inspired by members of Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.

Measuring 2ft 3in (67cm) high, the silvered and gilt bronze beauty in question holds a palm branch above her head. A rare subject for the artist, she is dressed in a long flowing skirt and the whole figure is raised on a shaped, stepped marble base.

David Hickmet, a specialist in Art Deco and Art Nouveau, offers the work for £15,500.
