The sixth staging of Printemps Asiatique Paris will take place from June 7-16.
This is a celebration of the Asian artistic heritage available, mirroring the longer established Asian Art in London and Asia Week New York events.
Over a dozen auction houses, a similar number of museums and institutions and around 25 galleries are taking part showing a mix of Chinese, Japanese and other Asian works of art that are for sale, alongside a raft of non-selling institutional exhibitions, lectures and guided tours.
Auctions take place in the firms’ own rooms or at the Drouot auction centre. The majority of dealer participants are Paris based and most will be putting on displays in their own galleries.
Of the overseas exhibitors, one or two have taken space as guests in a Paris gallery while around four or five from the UK, US and Netherlands, plus three Paris dealers and a couple of auction firms, will have stands at The Pagoda, a Maison Particulier near the Parc Monceau that was transformed in the 1920s into a distinctive red ochre Chinese-style building by the major Chinese dealer/collector CT Loo.
Diverse events
The wide-ranging programme of cultural events will include such diverse elements as a round-table discussion at the Bibliothèque Nationale; a guided visit to the workshop of a specialist restorer of Tibetan Thangkas; a guided tour and lunch at the café, gallery and grocery store Maison de l’Indonesie or a visit to the Musée Cernuschi’s Harley Preston collection exhibition combining ancient and modern ceramics with 20th century Japanese and Chinese paintings.
