A Whitefriars finger bowl made for Queen Victoria’s coronation banquet.
The yellow bowl was made by James Powell for a Queen Victoria’s coronation banquet given by the Corporation of London in 1837.
It was one of 12 made for the top table. Crowned VR with the badge of the City of London and the Flowers of the Union, it featured what West thought to be the first example of uranium glass (invented in Bohemia in 1835) made in the UK.
Offered for £2500, it was included in ATG’s coronation feature (issue No 2591), ahead of the dealer’s appearance at the Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair in Battersea (May 9-14).
