Deux Antilopes Koudou or Caress, c.1911, by Rembrandt Bugatti, is on offer at the inaugural The Treasure House Fair from French exhibitor Univers du Bronze for a price in excess of €200,000.
The event, which runs from June 22-26 in the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, fills a void left by Masterpiece London, which was scrapped earlier this year.
The new event aims to be a smaller but still international event and hosts names from Europe and beyond.
The bronze is offered for a price in excess of €200,000. Cast c.1920, it has the ‘burnt bread’ patina specific to the AA Hébrard foundry.
The focus of the stand is a Monkey by FX Lalanne from a limited edition of 12 and there are further works by artists such as Hébrard, Guyot and Laurens. Other international exhibitors include Galerie Gmurzynska from Zurich and Michele Beiny of the US, while British firms include Rountree Tryon, Butchoff Antiques, Charles Ede and Carter Marsh. There are more than 50 dealers standing in all.
Multi-discipline event
The founders are Thomas Woodham-Smith and Harry Van der Hoorn, who were two of the original founders of Masterpiece.
Van der Hoorn said: “The Treasure House Fair has been generated by dealers in the UK.
“It’s very important for London to have a key multi-disciplinary event for art and antiques in June.”
