A watercolour of Villefranche-sur-Mer on the Côte d’Azur by Arthur Knighton-Hammond (1875-1970), featuring in the Messum’s show.
Comprising 60 works, it runs from March 8-April 6 at the St James’s gallery.
Knighton-Hammond was from Nottingham but travelled widely, eventually moving to the continent. In the 1920s he was judged by Augustus John “the greatest English painter in watercolours of our time”.
However, this is the first selling exhibition of his work since 1976.
Works are priced from £2500-12,500.
