Rachel and Matthew Smith of Smith & Moon Interiors in Bridport are bringing to the Enys House Fair this terracotta statue priced at £1500. Titled Capri, signed and dated 1964, it is a maquette for a bronze by David Rawles depicting the struggles of the people of the island during the Second World War. Last year ATG mentioned Matthew’s monthly crowdfunded trips to Poland delivering food and medical aid for women living in Ukraine.

Described by the organisers Nicki and Ralph Retallack of Ludgate House Antiques in Falmouth as a fair with the wow factor, this event was launched by the two local antiques dealers in 2019 and is now a biannual fixture.

The 19th century ‘time warp’ house with an unusual history set in 30 acres of gardens and woodlands also has the wow factor, an extra draw for visitors to the fair.

Newcomers to the list of exhibitors include Bill Carter from Derbyshire who will be taking two vanloads of his mixed stock to the fair, the majority of which comes from France where he was based for many years. Statuary, garden and industrial furniture, “old and quirky items”, is on offer he says.
