He produced his first ‘bottle crash’ painting in 1956 at the 2nd Gutai Art Exhibition in Tokyo, placing a rock in the centre of a large canvas on the floor, against which he hurled bottles containing various coloured paints.
This painting titled Magi 919 (Bottle Crash) dates from 2008. It forms part of the mixed-owner Asian art sale held by Dore & Rees in Frome, Somerset, on November 6. Estimate £20,000-40,000.
