The card is titled A Strange Monster … What is it? and is by Joseph Lendon Berry. Photographer. 1 Market Street, Aberdare. c.1880.
Unfortunately it has fairly obvious condition issues - I like to think that it was so terrifying someone in the past has tried to destroy it!

Solution: rotate 90 degrees to reveal a dog sleeping in its basket – albeit hard to make out because of the condition
