A landscape by Austrian artist Johann Franz Nepomuk Lauterer which has returned to a Bavarian museum.
The painting, a landscape by Austrian artist Johann Franz Nepomuk Lauterer (1700-33), was reported stolen from the Bavarian State collection in 1945.
The painting has now been returned by the family of a US serviceman following negotiations between Chris Marinello’s Art Recovery International and the FBI art crime team in Chicago.
The painting was formally returned to the museum at a ceremony at the German consulate in Chicago on October 19.
