The Northcote Road Antiques Market, between Battersea and Clapham in south London, has been managed by antiques dealer Helen Rix since it opened in 1986 with six to eight of the original stallholders still there. It now hosts around 30 dealers.
Rix, who owns an nearby antiques shop, Eccles Road Antiques, said: “This is a dynamic and trendy area so we sell plenty of vintage, retro and upcycled pieces but also the more traditional stock of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, glass, ceramics, silver, and lighting. My problem is not having enough space to meet demand but as we don’t currently have a dealer in antiquarian books or clocks we would like to hear from anyone whose speciality this is.”
Brighton institution

Snoopers Paradise, an antiques and fleamarket in Brighton, is an institution and thus a tourist attraction but it is also a regular local haunt for buyers.
It has 90 traders and describes itself charmingly thus: “We sell some utter nonsense, it’s easy to get lost, some of our staff are scary and some of our customers are absolute fruitcakes.”
Michael ‘Atters’ Attree, pictured, who has been in the trade for 25 years and is a regular buyer at IACF Ardingly, is a dealer here. Atters Antiques’ stock includes antique and vintage photographs, paintings and prints, Georgian pieces, Victoriana and the “strange or esoteric”.
Cardiff views
Jacob’s Antiques Market is housed in a converted warehouse on West Canal Wharf in the centre of Cardiff and offers around 30 stalls over four floors selling militaria, vintage furniture and clothes, tribal art, coins, retro and lots more.
A bonus on the top floor is an art gallery and a roof terrace with views across the city skyline. Open Thursday to Saturday.
