It measures 12¼in (31cm) in height and width and its hinged doors open to reveal seven silk-lined drawers, while the two-tier hinged lid lifts to show a fitted interior with locked secret compartment.
The casket is, however, visibly not in the best condition. As the catalogue detailed, it was very damaged, the material disintegrated, the catch to the top section of the lid was closed fast and it had losses of thread and material, old woodworm to the base as well as replacement feet.
Evidently a restoration project, more than one bidder was keen to acquire the casket, however, since it managed to make £4200 on July 14, well over the £800-1200 predicted.
