An example contributed to the innate appeal of an attractive collection of Royal Naval relics offered at Hanson Ross (26% buyer’s premium) in Banbury on March 2.

It related to Charles Arthur Grigg, Able Seaman, HMS Orlando. His medals featured a China 1900 with Relief of Pekin bar, Long Service Good Conduct, Edward VII, to 187895 Charles Grigg, Petty Officer, His Majesty’s Yacht Alexandra and June 22, 1911, Coronation medal, un-named as issued, along with First World War medals.

The ditty box and personal possessions included photographs and letters to and from his wife and daughter, Bosun’s whistle, watch, calendar and shaving kit.

Estimated at £1000-1500, the group took £1550.
