This set of dominoes made by prisoners-of-war is offered by Walpoles for £575. French captives taken during the Napoleonic wars (1803-15) made the box and game set from the bones of their provisions.

They were sold legitimately at markets, encouraged by the prison authorities.

This set goes up to double nines and features a sliding cover embellished with pinned disks of cow horn and drilled as a scoring board.
