Star of the show was an impressive tinplate landscape made by Rock & Graner which was guided at €12,000.
The firm was one of the oldest producers of tinplate toys in Germany and the landscape on offer could be dated to c.1870. The finely detailed 4ft 3in (1.3m) wide hill was fitted with a castle, a station, a bridge, a mill and numerous other buildings, not to mention a train with two carriages.
Among its other special features were two functioning fountains, a millwheel and a well, all supplied by a water tank fitted in the hill.
Several bidders were well aware of the extreme rarity of such a piece and set about increasing its value. After plenty of determined action, the hammer fell at €50,000 (£43,105).
The auction took place on March 18.
