The hammer total for just three London sales in the calendar year was £11.3m (up over 7% from £10.5m in 2022). The sector is enjoying a purple patch and is attracting both collectors and investors.
Stephen Lane, CEO of Propstore, said: “The market for entertainment memorabilia continues to go from strength to strength. Many classic memorabilia pieces are appreciating at a remarkable rate.”
The firm will again hold its annual flagship auction in London in November (the venue for last-year’s sale of a ’screen-matched’ C3-PO head for £550,000 as part of the Anthony Daniels collection).
However, it is exploring both online sales and those with a hybrid format that are held ‘live online’ without a public venue for room bidding.
Propstore enjoyed similar levels of business in the US, with 10 sales in Los Angeles realising a hammer total of $14.5m (up from $12.6m the previous year).
