Despite being married and working in abstraction, the two never showed together either during their lifetimes or since.
Gallery Hollis Taggart, which recently announced representation of both artist’s estates, stages Interior Worlds: The Art of Charles Seliger and Ruth Lewin from February 22-March 30.
Lewin, a member of the Indian Space Painter movement, was influenced by Abstract Expressionism, the natural world and the iconography of the northwest coast indigenous peoples. She produced paintings, drawings and block prints, and is known for compositions that examine the effects of war. Her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and the Library of Congress.

Seliger’s works, though also responding to nature, were biomorphic, showing an interest and biology and physics. His influences were the Surrealists and organic growth. He was the youngest artist ever displayed in Peggy Guggenheim’s Art of This Century gallery. The show included Embryo in Flight, one of the works available at this exhibition.
Dealer Hollis Taggart said that the two estates fit the gallery’s portfolio of “artists whose work has not yet entered mainstream art history”.
Works are on offer at prices ranging from $15,000-75,000.
