Included in the on February 28 auction, each leaf measures 3½ x 2¾in (9 x 7cm) and depicts a scene from the Passion of Christ painted in gold heightened gouache with text to the reverse. They are dated to the early 16th century, c.1500, and ascribed on a stylistic basis to the Val de Loire school.

The two masters of illumination in this region at this time were Jean Fouquet and Jean Poyer, although the Cabinet Turquin, the sale expert for this lot, has suggested that other artists who followed the models of these two painters could have produced these pages.

The 15 leaves have been mounted in a gilt frame, probably in the late 19th or early 20th century in three rows of five.
